After a slow start in the opening round of the Central North Rugby Union competition, losing to the Tamworth Pirates 47-25, the local outfit has made every post a winner since.

The Brumbies accounted for Inverell 16-13 and, in their last outing, made short work of the Barraba Rams 35-17.

While those triumphs occurred at home, the club hits the road on Saturday to face the Bulls at Weebolla Oval.

“It’s been a great start to the season,” Scone president Bob Davidson said.

“In fact, it is the best [for us] in many years.

“And, those wins have given the boys a lot of confidence.”

The big test, however, comes in the form of the Bulls at Moree.

“We’ve picked up a couple of players, Brian and Michael, from Ireland,” Davidson said.

“It will certainly be a baptism of fire for them.

“It’s a tough trip.

“So, the newcomers will see what country rugby is all about.

“Moree’s had a mixed bag in 2017 – a win, a loss and a draw.

“Unfortunately, we’ve been hit by injuries and won’t have our strongest team on the park.

“But, we’ll still give it our best shot.

“I just don’t think it will be a fair indication as to how we’re travelling.

“However, if we come away with the points, we won’t be complaining.”

The Brumbies’ next home fixture at Brumby Park is against Quirindi on Saturday, May 27.

And, Davidson said a few big things were in the pipeline for the club.

“The Brumbies are celebrating their 50th anniversary this season,” he told the Advocate.

“We’ve even had a couple of blokes return to the fold.

“So, it’s a massive year for us.

“We’ve got a few functions planned, including Ladies Day and Sponsors Day.”
