The long-time Scone resident was treated to a special gift at the weekend and, from all accounts, she loved every minute of it, according to foster son Ron Smith.
“I thought it would be a good present for Gwen – and her family members agreed,” he said.
“Her late husband had a motorbike, which she rode about 60 years ago.
“But, she’d never been on a Harley Davidson before.
“Luckily, I happen to own one.”
With her helmet in hand, Mrs Osborn, who is visually and hearing-impaired, donned her leathers in readiness for the adventure.
Then, Mr Smith and the mother, grandmother and great-grandmother hit the road.
“I took her up to the Wingen pub (Durham Hotel) for lunch with the family on Saturday,” he said.
“And, she must have had a great time.
“When Gwen was offered the chance to return to Scone in the car, she opted for the Harley Davidson again.
“Daughter Narelle helped her on the bike, while her granddaughter’s husband got her off.
“We had to stop for road works for about 20 minutes – and she created a bit of excitement among the other motorists.
“Everyone was wishing her all the best [for her birthday].
“Not many 94-year-olds would get on the back of a motorbike.
“However, I think she’d do it again – Gwen thoroughly enjoyed herself.”
