But, it was worth the detour.
Half a dozen “Bashers” dropped into Scone Grammar School, much to the delight of the students who rushed to see the colourful array of vehicles.
The pre-1976 cars boasted all the extras, too, from water squirters, loud music and giveaways for the pupils.
“This is fantastic,” one of the kids shouted as he ran to the Despicable Me sedan.
And, the “Bashers” weren’t disappointed either.
Scone Grammar School presented them with a $418 cheque, taking their total donation to more than $1000.
The youngsters raised the funds through the Student Representative Council, a primary social and a milkshake day.
Eighty-one teams took part in the Variety NSW Bash, with a stop-over in Muswellbrook on Friday night.
The crews will also converge on Aberdeen on Saturday morning before finishing the final leg of the seven-day journey at Newcastle.
Along the way, they visited Gilgandra, Cowra, Narrandera, Yass and Bathurst, viewing the efforts of their fundraising first-hand.
More than $850,000 was raised in 2016 for local children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.
