THE weather did not do them any favours, but the Scone Junior Rugby Club (SJRC) representatives still shone brightly at the State Championships at the weekend.

Central North’s under-11s, coached by Scone’s Angus Patterson, headed to North Sydney and registered some impressive victories.
“The side, which featured locals Clayton Porter, Max Patterson, Harry Faulkner, Matty Edwards, Callan Winter, Will Crompton and Daniel Crowther, won four from six games,” SJRC president Renee Park said.
“They went down to the State Championships as the unknowns and surprised everyone.
“Central North claimed three scalps on the opening day – beating Parramatta 20-0, Eastwood 62-0 and Hunter 43-0.
“They picked up another win – against Northern Suburbs 15-5 – on day two but suffered two losses to Manly 36-5 and Mid-North Coast 15-10.
“Unfortunately, there aren’t finals or placings in the under-11s.”
Central North’s under-12s, coached by Scone’s Warren Park and featuring Bailey Park, Dan O’Regan, Josh Crowther, Hunter Ryan, Archie Brooker, Cody Grimes, Jimmy White and Charlie Richardson, finished fourth in their pool at Camden.
“Apart from a couple of matches, all play-off finals were abandoned due to the wet weather,” Park said.
“On day one, Gordon upset Central North 22-0 with CN holding Gordon out in the first half in a hotly-contested game of rugby.
“However, Gordon came out in the second period and managed to steal a couple of tries.
“Illawarra then beat CN 42-0.
“Playing in torrential rain and being totally outweighed by Illawarra, CN fought hard but could not hold out the massive front row of their opposition.
“Central North knocked over Northern Suburbs 17-15.
“It was an interesting fixture on a field of slush and mud and CN played well on a heavy track to bring it home.
“At the end of day one, the fields were closed at Camden and all teams were told the carnival was cancelled.
“Then, later that evening, we were informed the championships would go ahead at Tudor House in Mossvale.
“Everyone made the trek to Mossvale, only to suffer another setback.
“We were told at the completion of the pool games that play-off finals would be cancelled due to the state of the fields, with the top two teams being able to play on.”
