The local facility has secured funding to host workshops during NAIDOC Week next month.
NAIDOC Week is acknowledged in the first full week of July.
It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that indigenous Australians make to our country and our society.
“The Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre will partner with the Scone Library and have organised Aboriginal Art workshops for youth,” Mrs Watts said.
“The service has been able to secure Michelle Earl, a proud Wonnarua woman with a personal connection to the area.
“Michelle teaches and celebrates traditional Aboriginal culture and will facilitate painting workshops while sharing the stories of Aboriginal art through the painting of wooden boomerangs.”
Workshops are free and will take place at the Scone Library on Monday, July 10, between 10.30am and 11.30am for under eight-year-olds and 1pm and 2pm for nine years and older.
“We are expecting a good response, so bookings are essential by phoning the Library on 6540 1183,” Mrs Watts said.
These workshop were made possible through a successful grant provided by the NSW Government, Education Aboriginal Affairs to undertake 2017 NAIDOC Week Celebrations.
