The seasoned triathlete captured yet another crown, this time in England.
In a spur of the moment decision while visiting family, Nicky decided that she couldn’t pass up the possibility of another win on the track.
Taking part in the annual Dorney Lake Triathlon just outside of Windsor, she was awarded a trophy and the title of 2017 Women’s Triathlon Champion.
She won, even though she swam in a “borrowed wet suit” and rode a “borrowed bicycle” and also had difficulties getting out of the wet suit after the swim.
Before receiving her trophy, the presenter commended Western on her amazing victory, joking that she had spent so much time in transition after the first leg he wondered if she “had stopped for a cup of tea”.
She is highly-regarded in the community through her role as health and sport consultant with Upper Hunter Shire Council and getting the town’s residents active.
After winning her age group world championship in Beijing, Western then went on to win the duathlon world championship in Adelaide in 2015.
She is also the Hunter Academy’s triathlon coach and a married mother of three sons.
