The Boys’ Open Rugby League team won the Knights Knockout to qualify for the top 20 in the state to play at the All Schools Championship.
The boys were undefeated all day only to go down 6-0 in the Grand Final finishing runners up in the state.
Team manager Brooke Munn said the boys had to tough out some rough conditions on the day but they did so with a smile on their faces.
“We had a heavy storm come through and they came off drenched and covered in mud but still smiling and laughing despite the conditions,” she said.
“It’s been over 30 years since Scone Public School last played in the final of All Schools – it was a great accomplishment and the boys all worked really well together as a group despite also being down one player.”
Coach Leif Harrington said it was an astounding achievement to finish runners up in the state.
“It was a great effort from the boys, for a small town school it’s an achievement they should be proud of,” he said.
There were four teams in the pool with the top two teams progressing to the quarter finals. Games below:
• Pool Game 1: Scone 10 (Tries: Jack and Heath. Goal: Will) defeated Flinders 6.
