The 12-year-old will compete on horses ‘Maximus’ and ‘Mavrick’ against competitors from all over the country at the Toowoomba Showgrounds in Queensland from September 25-29.
The Scone teen who has been a member of Aberdeen Pony Club for the past 5 years has competed in a number of Equestrian Australia events in the dressage, eventing and showjumping disciplines.
Charlie’s father Blair Richardson said that Charlie was completely thrilled about competing at a national event.
“Charlie was the champion primary rider at the Equestrian New South Wales Interschool Championships in June this year which qualified him for the Australian Championships to be held next month,” he said.
“He will be competing in the open 95cm and he has also been selected to ride Mavrick in the Primary Combined Training as well as the Primary Show Jumping.”
The Australian Interschool Championships attracts more than 2,000 school based competitors, family, friends and supporters from right around the country and is a major focus for young equestrians.
The event is the largest equestrian grassroots program delivered nationally in Australia and is designed to up-skill school competitors aged 5-18 years old in horsemanship as well as improve their competition based skills.
In preparation for the event next month, Charlie will now turn his attention to a number of Equestrian Australia competitions including the Liverpool Plains Equestrian Interschools at Quirrindi Showgrounds from September 1-3.
