The police academy’s latest graduating class of probationary constables have received their first assignments as they prepare to finish their training on Friday.
Class 331 is made up of 166 men, 60 women and six police dogs. The youngest recruits are 19, with the eldest a 46-year-old woman.
The Northern region adds 16 officers, more than the Southern and Western regions’ 12 officers apiece.
The Upper Hunter and Tuggerah Lakes commands will receive three officers, the most in patches covering the Hunter.
Lake Macquarie, Brisbane Water, Port Stephens and Richmond each welcome two officers while Central Hunter, which covers Maitland and Cessnock, receives one.
Newcastle is not listed to receive an allocation.
The remainder of the 226 officers are bound for Sydney local area commands.
Central Metropolitan region will welcome 78 recruits while North West Metropolitan adds 53 and South West Metropolitan 55 officers.
NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller, APM, said the recruits will experience all facets of policing over the next 12 months.
“Police are an integral part of the fabric of the communities they serve and these men and women have worked hard to reach this milestone,” Commissioner Fuller said.
“As they embark on their new careers, they will uphold the values and honour of what it means to be a NSW Police Officer.
“I congratulate them and their new communities welcome them,” Commissioner Fuller said.
