He said the money would provide a total upgrade of fittings, technical equipment and facilities.

“I’m delighted the government has been able to provide funding for this much-loved local theatre, which will benefit our community for decades to come by making it easier for people to enjoy local arts and cultural experiences,” Mr Johnsen explained.

“The funding is from the NSW Government’s Infrastructure Grants supported by the Clubgrants Category 3 program. 

“More than $50 million in Clubgrants funding is being provided in the current term of the government for local community infrastructure projects across arts and culture, sport and recreation and emergency preparedness. 

“These grants are funded through a rebate on the state’s registered clubs’ gaming machines to reinvest profits back into community projects.

Mr Johnsen said the latest round of arts and culture infrastructure funding had seen 13 projects across NSW chosen from a strong field of more than 90 applicants.  

“These innovative projects will support construction of high quality, well designed infrastructure to provide more enriching arts and cultural experiences for our local residents and visitors alike,” he added.

Upper Hunter Shire mayor Wayne Bedggood was thrilled by the news.

“We are very pleased to receive further funding for the continued restoration of the Scone Old Court Theatre,” he said.

“This next stage will see the renovation of some of the internal components of the site, and it is a credit to the committee and council staff who have continued to work on funding applications for this site.”
