And, their hard work and commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed – with the couple taking out a top gong for their work in construction and building.
The pair have plenty to smile about after coming home winners of the Design and Construct up to $500,000 category at the NSW Excellence in Housing awards in Sydney on September 2.
And while their business G.J. Gardner Homes Hunter Valley is based in Singleton, both Matt and Paula were born in Scone where their two children now go to school.
After building a home for a local family, the Clarks announced afterwards that they were surprised yet proud to take out the award after just one year as G.J. Gardner franchisees.
The Master Builders Association of NSW organises the awards program, which recognises excellence in the building and construction industries.
The awards cater for the entire spectrum of building industry participants, including apprentices, students, residential, commercial and civil contractors as well as sub-contractors and recent building degree graduates.
Highly contested in all sectors – they are one of the industry’s oldest award programs.
The news comes the same week as two local businesses, Scone Cottage and Open Space Events and the Scone Chamber of Commerce attended the Hunter Business Awards as finalists.
