Residents urged to have their say on 2018 Scone Cup Day options

IT’S time again to put your views on holiday arrangements for next year’s Scone Cup by completing a short online survey or making a written submission to Upper Hunter Shire Council by Friday, October 6.

Holiday arrangements for the Scone Cup are determined by NSW Minister for Industrial Relations based on the views of the Upper Hunter Shire community.

The options for Scone Cup Day 2018 are:

* A half day public holiday from noon, as in previous years;

* A part day public holiday from noon to 6pm, which would reduce the burden on local businesses particularly those in hospitality;

* A local event day where no penalty rates apply unless agreed at an individual workplace level; or

* No holiday arrangements.

The survey asks respondents to choose their preferred holiday arrangements for the 2018 Scone Cup, and whether Merriwa and Cassilis districts should be included for holiday arrangements for the Scone Cup or Merriwa Springtime Show.

In previous surveys, most respondents have supported the existing half day public holiday on the Friday of the Scone Cup.

In previous years the holiday arrangements have applied to Aberdeen, Blandford, Bunnan, Ellerston, Gundy, Moonan Brook, Murrurundi, Parkville, Scone, Rouchel, Timor and Wingen.

In the past the holiday arrangements have not applied to the Merriwa and Cassilis districts but that could change if there is community support.

Residents, businesses and organisations can fill in the survey on council’s website under Hot Topics or give their views by emailing council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au or writing to the General Manager, Upper Hunter Shire Council, at PO Box 208, Scone 2337.

Council will also contact stakeholders such as schools, businesses, chambers of commerce, banks and transport companies for their views.

The Darley Scone Cup Race Day will be held on Friday, May 11, at the Scone Race Club.
