Hunter Valley Local Area Command Chief Inspector Guy Guiana said police attended the various businesses with forensics from late in the morning of October 2.
“At this stage there were four confirmed break ins and the suspicion is that the same person or people are responsible for all the offences,” he said.
“Overall there has not been a dramatic increase in the average number of break ins and stealing offences but obviously we have people in the area willing to commit these offences and the community needs to remain vigilant.
“We ask that people report suspicious behaviour and report any crimes they discover as soon as possible, either direct to the Local Area Command or via the Police Assistance Line.
“We also ask that businesses and individuals do not use Facebook as a method of reporting crime because we are unable to monitor social media platforms in this manner.
“We suggest that businesses review their security of goods and money and where possible install good quality CCTV systems and post prominent signage advertising it.
“They should review the type of doors and locks they have and upgrade if possible, but we understand the financial implications of upgrading security.
“If a stealing or break in is detected it is important that the victim try and isolate the area where offenders might have come into contact with surfaces suitable for fingerprints until police area able to make an assessment.
“Anyone that does have information regarding the recent break ins is asked to contact police.
“All reports are treated as confidential and anonymous reports can also be made via Crime Stoppers.”
