Three local players have been selected to represent Australia including Jack Archibald, 28, Alec White, 27, and Lachie Gilmore, 17.

Living on neighbouring properties and both from Scone, Archibald and White are the two highest rated players with a handicap record of 5.

As a new addition to the team, Lachie Gilmore will compete for Australia for the first time this year.

The 17-year-old from Ellerston is continuing a family tradition – with his father Glen Gilmore having captained the Australian team for more than a decade.

Jack Archibald has also been named captain of the squad and says he is excited to lead the Australian team for the first time.

“Representing your country at any level is a great privilege but to be a part of the World Cup team and having the opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd makes it even more special and a once in a lifetime opportunity,” he said.

Alec White added that he was looking forward to a very competitive tournament.

“We have a mix of experienced and some fantastic up-and-coming players so will work hard to play a smart team game,” he said.

“Hopefully we can use playing on home soil in front of family, friends and a supportive Aussie crowd to our advantage and do everyone proud.”

The world’s best players will compete at the Olympic grade tournament which for the first time will host a myriad of events off the field including an art exhibition.

The exhibition, curated by Selina Hitches, will feature the work of Scone local metal sculptor Stephen Irwin.

The XI FIP World Polo Championship will be held at Sydney Polo Club, Richmond from October 21 to 29.
