IT seems only fitting that a town named ‘Parkville’ would have a state-of-the-art park to enjoy.

And, that’s exactly what residents received on the weekend when a new set of play equipment officially opened for use at the Parkville Tennis Grounds.
Parkville Tennis and Social Club president Melissa Reeves said the playground was installed thanks to a generous grant from the state government.
“We applied for a grant through the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership program,” she said.
“It took a while to install but the play equipment was officially ready for use this weekend – and the children have been playing non-stop.”
The play equipment is a massive addition to the village of Parkville, which in the 2016 Census, was home to just 302 people.
“It’s brilliant, we now have somewhere to take the kids without having to travel to Scone, Murrurundi or Aberdeen – it’s great for parents and grandparents.”
Ms Reeves said it was also a great addition to the Tennis and Social Club and in walking distance to the courts.
“The children can now play on the equipment while the adults have a game of tennis,” Ms Reeves said.
“With the clubhouse and the toilets it’s also great for birthday parties.”
The club currently offers court and clubhouse hire and are trying to gain more interest to run a regular competition.
“We would love to have a competition up and running, but just don’t have the numbers.”
In a first for the small town, there was also 30 stalls on the grounds on Sunday selling goods at their ‘Car Boot Sale’ and a barbecue lunch on offer.
Organised by the social club, Melissa Reeves said the day was a success and everyone was very happy with the turnout.
“We would definitely like to make it a regular thing, and will look at holding another one in the lead up to Christmas,” she said.
The club now turns their attention to the Nundorah Tennis Cup on Sunday November 25 where Santa is set to make a special appearance.
