Upper Hunter Shire Council Business Enterprise and Tourism Manager Sean Constable said both Council and the NSW Government Public Reserves Fund are investing funds to upgrade the amenities block at the Merriwa Caravan Park.
“After 13 years it is time to replace the transportable amenities and provide something more appropriate for today’s travellers,” Mr Constable said.
The project includes construction of a new accessible toilet and shower, retiling of the entire space, new fittings and a fresh paint job throughout as well as new guttering, toilets, showers and laundry facilities.
“Rejuvenating the amenities block will make the park a more appealing place to stop overnight and enjoy what Merriwa has to offer,” he said.
“The existing transportable amenities can then be removed and replaced with an en-suite cabin.”
Set on the banks of Merriwa River halfway between Newcastle and Dubbo, Merriwa Caravan Park resides on Crown Land but Upper Hunter Shire Council has continued to invest funds at the park to ensure the town has somewhere for Golden Highway caravan and camping travellers to stay.
The project is being undertaken by Scott Witton Building and work has already commenced on site.
The Park will remain open throughout the construction phase, however, access to the laundry and disabled toilet will be affected at times during construction.
