Residents are enouraged to join the program held every Monday departing at 1pm from Murrurundi Library.
Set up by The Wilson Memorial Community Hospital Local Health Committee (LHC), in cooperation with Hunter New England Health, the Heart Foundation and Upper Hunter Shire Council, it is designed to give people an improved sense of wellbeing and an opportunity to make new friends.
Chairperson of the LHC Mr Rodney Swansborough is encouraging people to come along and enjoy the benefits of walking.
“Regular walking is a great way to improve your fitness and encourages weight management,” he said.
“Keeping active is particularly important for older people, and also gives you the opportunity to make new friends.
“We hope the walking group will increase the number of people in Murrurundi walking regularly.
“If you have a dog, feel free to bring them along too.”
Mr Swansborough said that the walk is very informal and will take about 30 minutes enjoying the surroundings in beautiful Murrurundi.
Walkers are reminded to wear a hat, sunscreen, sensible walking shoes, and to bring a water bottle.
For enquiries about the walking group, please contact Council’s Community Services Officer Heather Ranclaud on 6540 1356.
