Merriwa’s Gumman Place Hostel has proven just that after taking out the 2017 Prime Super Employer Excellence in Aged Care Award last Friday.
The Regional Achievement and Community Awards attracted more than 200 guests including official guest The Hon Paul Toole MP, Minister for Lands and Forestry at a gala dinner at the Marina Views Function Centre in Newcastle.
The Award acknowledges aged care facilities, organisations, not for profits and businesses making a positive difference in the industry in NSW and the ACT.
Gummun Place Hostel outshone much larger rivals to take out the award which Upper Hunter Shire Mayor Wayne Bedggood has congratulated them for.
“This award is a credit to all staff at Gummun Place Hostel and within Council,” Cr Bedggood said.
“It is an outstanding achievement for our community to take home such a prestigious award against fierce competition from much larger centres.
“Council has committed to supporting our ageing community in the new Community Strategic Plan and Gummun Place Hostel is an integral part of this strategy.
“This award recognises that we are heading in the right direction with the provision of quality services for our residents.”
The announcement of this award coincides with Suzanne Duggan being recognised for 20 years of service as the Gummun Place Hostel Supervisor.
With 16 residents, 17 staff and an abundance of aged care accreditation requirements to attend to on a daily basis, this award is a reflection of Sue’s utmost dedication and her outstanding capabilities as Hostel Supervisor.
