The Scone Commonwealth Bank branch has joined the “#itsinthebag” campaign – setting up a collection point for handbags in new or near new condition, along with women’s personal care and sanitary items.
The initiative is run by Australian not-for-profit organisation, Share the Dignity, providing homeless and at risk women with sanitary products since early 2015.
Branch Manager of Commonwealth Bank Scone Emma Keaton said they are thrilled to be supporting Share the Dignity.
“They provide an opportunity to make life better for a woman or girl experiencing homelessness or poverty in our local community this Christmas,” she said.
The Scone team are hoping to collect 20 bags during the campaign. If you’d like to donate, it’s simple.
First of all, choose a handbag in good condition that you no longer use.
Then simply fill it with items that would make a woman feel special, and pop in a thoughtful note or Christmas card to show her someone cares.
Next time you’re at the shops, collect a few extra items, then fill your handbag with goodies – especially the essentials, from toothpaste to deodorant or a hairbrush – and drop it down to the Scone Branch.
“All you need to do is bring it in by December 2 and we will do the rest for you,” Emma Keaton said.
