It was named the joint winner of the Airport Innovation and Excellence (Operations) award in the regional airport category at the Australian Airports Association (AAA) National Airport Industry Awards last week.
The award recognised its participation in a regional networking forum for Aerodrome Report Officers.
The forum provides a mechanism for airport staff to share knowledge on issues such as safety, security and operational efficiency, with a focus on the unique challenges faced by regional airports.
AAA Chief Executive Officer Caroline Wilkie said it was really pleasing to see regional airports working together and sharing knowledge to provide the best possible outcomes for their communities.
“Scone Airport should be commended for their commitment to our industry and the leadership they’ve shown as part of this forum,” she said.
Scone Regional Airport took out the honour ahead of other airports in their category which included Brisbane Airport Corporation, Darwin International Airport and Sydney Airport.
Scone also came runner-up in the Regional Airport of the Year (Small Regional Aerodrome) Category.
Upper Hunter Shire Council’s Property and Business Coordinator, Joanne McLoughlin, accepted the Award on behalf of Council at the Awards Ceremony in Adelaide.
Joanne said she was proud of their achievements.
“The Aerodrome Reporting Officer Network Forum is all about collaborating with other airports for knowledge sharing and supporting each other,” she said.
“We get together once every 6 months to discuss day to day operational matters and provide phone and email support to each other.
“There were four airports involved in founding the program and this has now grown to include 10 airports within a 400km radius from Dubbo.
“I am proud to be part of this valuable network which provides a wealth of knowledge and opportunities to improve Scone Regional Airport.”
