While both teams entered the fray down on troops, due to a big injury toll, it didn’t detract from the encounter.
The Magpies opened the scoring through rampaging Dimity Parker to lead 4-0.
However, the Mavettes hit back almost immediately via Bridget Hunt, levelling up at 4-all.
Parker then crossed for her second try to put Merriwa ahead 8-4 at the break.
In the second period, the Magpies extended their advantage, courtesy of the Blackadders, Shae and Maddi, while another of the clan, Gaynor, was a handful every time she touched the ball.
In the feature match, the Muswellbrook Ramettes won a 14-12 thriller from the Singleton Greyhounds.
