CAMBORN stud cleared 281 June/July 2016-drops and increased averages across the board during its annual ram sale north of Wentworth, NSW, on Friday. The stud sold all 105 White Suffolk rams offered to $2600 three times, averaging $1800 – a $570 increase on last year’s sale – and all 176 Poll Dorset rams offered to $2000 twice, averaging $1525 – a $255 increase on 2016.  Camborn stud principal Roger Wilkinson was pleased with the sale after a “hard” lambing season, and the resulting decrease in rams offered. The stud bought Illoura Poll Dorset stud, Moorlands, in February, with about 50 of the rams sprinkled among the Camborn offering. Other bloodlines in the offering included Ulandi Park Poll Dorsets, Marrabel, Derrynock Poll Dorsets, Trentham, Vic, and Tattykeel Poll Dorsets, Oberon, NSW, while White Suffolk bloodlines included Illoura, Wingamin, Karoonda, and Wheetelande, Farrell Flat. Tammit Station, Euston, NSW, took home the three top price White Suffolk rams among the 15 head it bought in total of both breeds, to be used over Merino ewes for sucker lamb production. Riverton Lodge, Barham, NSW, bought the top two Poll Dorset rams, plus another, to put over first-cross ewes. The biggest volume buyer was Prungle Station, Euston, with 36 head, comprising both breeds, topping at $1500, while MG Lynch, Morkalla, Vic, returned to the sale after an absence to buy 24 Poll Dorsets to $1600. Greg McSwain, Merbein South, Vic, also returned after an absence to buy 18 Poll Dorsets to $1700, while Fitzgerald Bros, Ivanhoe, NSW, bought 15 Poll Dorsets to $1700. Prill Park Pastoral, Euston, notched up 18 White Suffolk rams to $2100, while Lelma Station, Wentworth, NSW, took home 15 White Suffolks to $1900. Elders conducted the sale.
