And, like previous years, more than 200 people are expected to converge on the Tuesday, April 25, ceremony in 2017.
While Anzac Day coincides with the anniversary of the landing in Gallipoli, the day itself is not meant to be a commemoration of the event, but rather the qualities that Australia established for itself there.
On April 25, we recognise the courage, mateship, skill and perseverance of those who have served, fought and given their lives in the military.
Gundy Anzac Day Committee secretary Trish Ferguson said preparations were well in hand for this month’s event.
“It’s a big day for the town,” she explained.
“We have a very successful service with a huge crowd attending each year.
“Our hall and supper room is usually choc-a-bloc, thanks to a couple of hundred people.
“We also put on a home-cooked morning tea afterwards, which is well-received.”
The Gundy march assembles at The Linga Longa Inn at 8.45am, and then proceeds to the Soldiers Memorial Hall from the 9am service.
A bus will provide transport from Scone, leaving the RSL Club at 8am and picking up out the front of the hotels and Scone Bowling Club (Gundy Road entrance).
Following the service, the bus will return to Scone in time for the Scone Anzac Day march.
“Everyone is looking forward to it,” Mrs Ferguson said.
“As there are no Vets left to run the service, our committee was formed several years ago so Gundy would continue to have one.
“Residents march with their father’s medals, along with scouts, school children, ex-servicemen and women.
“Belltrees Public School is heavily involved in the ceremony, too.”
