Local children celebrate NAIDOC Week at Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre

THE NAIDOC Week celebrations continued at the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SNRC) last week, with the town’s youngsters gaining an insight into our indigenous heritage.

The facility, in partnership with Scone Library, hosted two workshops – junior and senior - featuring Michelle Earl.

And, SNRC manager Lee Watts said it was a great day.

“I think the kids got a lot out of it,” she explained.

“Children of all ages participated in a variety of activities such as painting boomerangs, animal dancing and Storytime.

“Michelle’s a proud Wanaruah woman – we were delighted to have her on board.

“She shared some traditional yarns, which gave everyone a better understanding of Aboriginal culture.”

Mrs Watts said the SNRC received a grant from the NSW Government Educational Aboriginal Affairs to conduct the workshops.

“We really appreciate the support and thank everyone for taking part in the day,” she added.
