While the club doesn’t contest first grade, the Murrurundi Mavericks will also join the celebrations throughout BHP Billiton Hunter Valley Group 21 Rugby League.
The two-team organisation is preparing to host the Denman Devils on Saturday, with the reserves and women’s league tag sides going into battle.
“The WTAW message really hits home up this way,” secretary Sharna Millgate said.
“Scone’s a club close to us, so there was a ripple effect following Will’s tragic death.
“But, everyone’s keen to be involved.
“We’ll auction off the Mavericks’ jerseys after the game, while the girls are wearing the WTAW socks.
“In fact, we’ve bought extra pairs to sell on the day, as well.
“We’re very community-minded – and more than happy to support any charity, especially WTAW.”
The Mavericks, sitting in fifth spot on 10 points, can end the season on a high while the second-placed Mavettes are one of the favourites in their division.
“The boys were on the back foot from the start of the year,” Millgate admitted.
“However, they’ve responded really well to finish where they have.
“We’re really looking forward to [building on that] next season.
“As for the Mavettes, they’re a good group of girls.
“A few of them have been there from the start, so they are very excited to be playing semi-final football in 2017.
“I guess they’re the hopes of Murrurundi.
“And, it would be great to see them in the decider.
“They’ve worked hard and trust each other – it’s definitely been a strong team effort.”
