Residents from all five villages attended a special gathering today as the ribbon was cut at the Strathearn Villas on Gundy Road.
Admiring their new meeting place and enjoying morning tea, games and a chat, the residents also had a lot to say about the new addition to the facility.
“In the past we would all meet in my villa, socialise, drink wine, or have a cup of tea,” resident Anne Miles said.
“Now, we have a wonderful new meeting place,” she said.
The decked out villa will serve as a temporary meeting place for residents until their brand new community centre is built at Strathearn house.
General Manager for HammondAtHome, David Martin described the community centre as a place for residents to “meet and come together.”
“It’s a place of meeting for them – a place they can come and enjoy their time together and call their own,” he said.
“Now, when they have new residents, they can meet here and socialise and get to know one another,” he said.
Village Manager Caitlyn Easey said the residents had expressed interest in starting a craft club and they needed a place to meet and discuss this.
“Residents now have the opportunity to come together and organise any outings that they may want to go on in the future,” Ms Easey said.
Resident Anne Miles said Caitlyn had done a terrific job organising the project.
“Thank you Caitlyn for your lovely job setting up the centre for use – it is a wonderful meeting place,” she said.
