Now, the Scone Grammar School students have a new memory to share – representing at a national level.

The boys recently competed at the National PSSA Rugby Championships in Darwin with Park representing New South Wales and Hunter representing Sydney.

The New South Wales team came away on top – winning all their games with a combined total of 247 points. The Sydney side came away second.

Scone Junior Rugby president Renee Park said to reach this level the boys had represented Scone Grammar School at the Combined Independent Schools (CSI) Rugby trials in May.

“Both boys were successful in gaining selection out of approx 400 players trialing,” Renee Park said.

The lads then played for CIS at the PSSA Primary Rugby State Championships in August at Salamander Bay where CIS won the State Championship.

“There was approximately 280 players in 13 teams competing at the State Championships and selectors picked the NSWPSSA team from that State Carnival,” Renee Park said.

“Bailey Park was selected as a prop for New South Wales.”

“This year a Sydney Invitational team was selected after the New South Wales team and Hunter Ryan was selected as a halfback in that team.

“This is an outstanding result for the boys and for Scone Grammar School.

“Being a small country town school competing with students from the best schools in New South Wales for selection, it was wonderful to see them both be able to make it through to the national level together,” Ms Park said.

Bailey Park is only the third Scone Grammar School primary student to gain selection in the NSW Rugby team.
