The two Honour Rolls recognise almost 200 residents who served overseas in the second World War and six who served in the Vietnam conflict.
Merriwa RSL Sub-Branch made the request for the relocation to Upper Hunter Shire Council after extensive discussion within the organisation.
The Honour Roll Boards were previously displayed at council’s Merriwa office and have been in storage while renovations were undertaken.
The former Merriwa Shire Council wrote to the Merriwa RSL in 1999 suggesting that Honour Rolls be moved to the RSL Club.
Merriwa RSL Sub-Branch president Brian Booth said the sub-branch would take on the role as guardians of the Honour Boards to preserve the military history of the Merriwa community.
Residents’ feedback regarding the proposed relocation is welcome by email to council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au, writing to council at PO Box 208, Scone NSW 2337, or dropping written comments into any council office by Thursday, January 25.
