The Golden Slipper is the premier two-year-old race in Australia – and the richest for that age group throughout the world.
Luskin Star claimed the honours back in 1977, with Manikato doing likewise 12 months later.
In recent times, the likes of She Will Reign (2017), Capitalist (2016), Vancouver (2015), Mossfun (2014), Overreach (2013), Pierro (2012), Sepoy (2011), Sebring (2008), Forensics (2007), Miss Finland (2006), Stratum (2005) and Dance Hero (2004) have also saluted the judges.
And, while Rosehill hosts the big day each March, the Upper Hunter will be able to soak up a bit of that atmosphere at the Scone Race Club this weekend.
To coincide with the Inglis Family Race Day on Sunday, January 21, CEO Heath Courtney is keen to welcome the 2018 Longines Golden Slipper Tour to town, too.
“The Australian Turf Club (ATC) is taking the trophy on the road, to celebrate the 2018 Longines Golden Slipper on March 24 at Rosehill Gardens,” he said.
“It’s visiting a number of communities between January and March, including Scone.
“So, we’re delighted it’s here.
“Racing’s greats will be on hand to talk about the upcoming Longines Golden Slipper, who to watch out for on the track and what makes the Golden Slipper one of Australia’s most important racing events.
“Locals can have their photo taken with the trophy, as well as go in the draw to win one of 10 double passes to the 62nd edition of the Slipper on March 24.
“Plus, we will also provide free children’s activities, from a water slide and obstacle course to face painting.
“Patrons may enjoy a beautiful buffet lunch for $40 while taking in the amazing racing and views on offer in style in the club’s air-conditioned Function Centre.
“Bookings are essential – and filling fast.
“For the die-hard punter, we’ll also field a quality seven-race card, too.
Gates open at 11.30am and the entry is free.
