Joining with a number of locals and representatives from HNEH, Upper Hunter MP Michael Johnsen said the weekly service run by visiting radiographers from Muswellbrook District Hospital would begin from Wednesday, February 7.
“The trained radiographers will visit Merriwa each Wednesday, and referrals can be made through our local GPs,” he explained.
“Under the new service, visiting radiographers will be able to provide x-rays within the capability of the equipment, although patients can still have imaging done elsewhere if they chose or if the situation is more urgent.
“Imaging is an important aspect of modern health care and the local community, through the Merriwa Progress Association, has advocated for x-ray services for the town.
“This a great win for our Merriwa residents and our local community.
“I am proud to be a member of a government that is delivering for rural and regional Australia.
“X-rays taken at Merriwa can be transferred to Hunter New England Health’s secure digital imaging viewing system, known as PACS, so they can be shared with doctors or specialists elsewhere if needed.”
