That was the message that was reinforced at Scone Public School on Tuesday morning at the Student Representative Council (SRC)’s induction assembly.
The new student leaders for 2018 were introduced, with each proudly taking to the stage to accept their badges.
“I always looked up to the chair of the SRC,” Scone High School’s school captain Amelia Meier said as she addressed the hall.
“But anyone can be a leader – positivity is also a very important skill to have.”
Amelia spoke of her experience representing the Rotary Club of Scone as an exchange student in Denmark in 2016 and the skills everyone can gain by immersing themselves in something new.
“I thought why not do something different – learn a new language or meet some new people,” Amelia said.
Special guests at the induction included Scone High School principal Brian Drewe and Upper Hunter mayor Wayne Bedggood.
“Your leaders should be there to help get the best results for everyone, not just themselves,” Cr Bedggood said.
“Most of you will be asked to be a leader at some stage in your lives – not everyone will say yes but I would encourage you all to just give it a try and see if you like it.”
