Eight trucks of hay will arrive in the region next week to help nourish the cattle that are battling severe drought conditions.
And there is more good news.
The Buy A Bale Hunter campaign – a partnership between The Maitland Mercury, Newcastle Herald, Dungog Chronicle, Scone Advocate, Hunter Valley News and charity Rural Aid – has so far raised more than $80,000.
The money is being used to buy hay, water and groceries for Upper Hunter and Lower Hunter farmers.
Rural Aid chief executive Charles Alder praised the community for their generosity.
He urged businesses to join the campaign to keep Hunter farmers on the land, saying there were at least 150 farmers who needed immediate assistance.
We need businesses throughout the Hunter region to come on board and donate so we can help all of the farmers in need,

Truck drivers are also being sought to help transport the hay to farmers.
“The trucks will be going back and forth as much as they can to bring the hay up as quickly as possible,” Mr Alder said.
We’d love more truck drivers to get involved, so if there are truckies in the Hunter who want to help please get in touch,
