Owner/operators Daniel and Belinda Zammit were presented Highly Commended for Youth Friendly Business of the Year, while one of their employees Jackson Barry was named Young Person of the Year (Upper Hunter Region).
The primary purpose of RYDON (Regional Youth Development Officers Network) is to focus on development activities that will assist young people to access community resources and opportunities in the Cessnock, Dungog, Gloucester, Gosford, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Upper Hunter and Wyong Local Government Areas.
So, the Zammits were understandably chuffed to be acknowledged at such a prestigious function.
“It was great to see the business recognised for providing a safe, inclusive, respectful and fun environment for young people to work in,” Mr Zammit said.
“And, our community involvement, from Picnic by the Lake and Christmas in the Park, to supporting sporting groups such as the Scone Thoroughbreds, Scone Brumbies and local cricket, was acknowledged as well.
“As one of the largest employers of youth within the Upper Hunter Shire, industry and peer recognition of what our business does for the local youth – be it within the restaurant teaching the staff valuable skill sets, giving them confidence to handle differing situations and the ability of being part of a team – is instrumental in them realising their inner potential to go on and succeed in whatever their future directions may lead.
“We have developed a lot of successful people over our careers and we look forward to continuing that, and motivating youth, for many years to come.
“It’s also what the business does to help foster youth development and community involvement, whether it’s in local sporting teams, local festivals and local business activities.
“We want to promote positive behaviours and encouragement to be part of the community.
“Belinda and I are grateful for our management team and entire staff who day-in and day-out help deliver upon our goals for the business.
“We’re also very thrilled for one of our employees Jackson Barry.
“I have no doubt that Jackson’s family are extremely proud of his achievements to-date.
“I believe he’ll go on and succeed in his future as he is a role model for many employees.
“This individual achievement is a credit to the way in which he approaches his work, school and community.”
