UPPER Hunter Shire Council workers have installed a new outlet pipe at Scone Reservoir, the first connection in what will be a 40km pipeline supplying plentiful water for Murrurundi from 2020.

Following community outcry last week over water which flowed into Figtree Gully, Council has explained that they were required to empty one of the three Scone reservoirs located at Barton Street to allow contractors to replace and modify the 450mm outlet pipework.
“This required running the water level down as far as possible through normal operations – to the extent that some properties began to experience temporary low pressure issues – and then scour the rest of the water in the reservoir,” Council said.
“The scoured water flowed into Figtree Gully. It was not feasible to capture any of this water for other uses due to the location of the scour valve and the scour outlet pipework.”
The NSW Government has contributed $13 million towards the pipeline project via the Restart NSW Water Security for Regions program.
Additional funding has also been provided by the Upper Hunter Shire Council, who are managing the works.
