Scone RSL Sub-Branch secretary George Clementson says preparations are going well in Scone, with this years’ service to have more of a focus on our local youth.
“This year what we have done is asked the three schools, Scone Grammar School, Scone High School and St Jospeh’s to march directly behind the veterans,” he said.
“With the aim being to make people focus on the age difference, as some of the veterans would have been the same age when they served overseas.”
The service in Scone will also include a combined choir, with students from Scone Grammar School and St Mary’s joining forces to sing “A Soldier to His Horse”.
Local talent Tash Kelaher will be providing the vocals for the Australian Anthem at the dawn service, while Ramond Wilson will sing the New Zealand anthem.
Mr Clementson said the service is becoming bigger every year with hundreds expected again this year.
“It’s great for a small town to be so well supported on Anzac Day,” he said.
Entertainment will also be provided by Scone RSL Pipes and Drums and the Scone Singers and there will be a special fly past at 11am featuring former military aircraft.
Anzac Day is the solemn day of remembrance for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought and died at Gallipoli in 1915.
It is also a day of remembrance for all soldiers who have fought and died for their country and is recognised with a public holiday in Australia.
