Cham Roeun Heng and Im Ou took over the shop, once a Greek takeaway café, exactly 8 years ago on Thursday.
They’ve worked every day to serve takeaway to the people of Scone – from their popular burgers and milkshakes to one of the favourites on the menu, their fish and chips.
But Wednesday was ‘the last supper’ at the once original 1950’s-style milk bar and the very next day, the famous “Vogue Cafe” sign was ripped off the front of the building.
The duo never intended on closing their shop but say they were forced to due to the owner of the building.
“The lease ended and it will be up to the owner what they do with it,” Im Ou said as the builders started to clear out what used to be the kitchen.
“All of our customers over the years are not customers they are out best friends and we have built a very good relationship with them. Especially around Scone, we really love them and it’s very sad to let it go.
“It’s not our choice.”
The surprise closing has left locals wondering when they’ll get their next takeaway fix.
On Wednesday, the local community came in for their last Vogue orders.
The messages of support flooded in, from flowers to chocolates to notes that read “don’t close The Vogue”.
“How many shops in New South Wales sell Lambs Fry,” one local exclaimed.
“This is the one place between Newcastle and Guyra that sold the best Lambs Fry.”
Im Ou said they wouldn’t rule out opening a similar takeaway shop in Scone in the future.
“A lot of people have come to have their last meal and support us and encouraged us to reopen another one which has made us keep thinking,” she said.
“But we will have a good break first before we jump into anything else.
“We are staying in the area, we live here and this is our home and all our friends are here.
“We really believe we were doing well with the little shop because the locals supported us.
“Everyone is our best friends here.
Thank you to all of our customers for your support over the years and for the friendship.
