With a refreshed branding approach, “ignite” – or to give life or energy to – is all about giving the festival a revitalised approach to bring back the fun for everyone involved, according to the committee.
The town’s annual gathering of events is more than just a celebration of its rich equine history.
Each year students across the Upper Hunter get their creative thinking caps on, adding to the colour and magic that is the Scone Horse Festival Parade.
The parade is set to bring Kelly Street alive on Sunday May 6 from 10.45am.
And, joining the fun this year will be a bunch of students and their trusty steeds – made from bamboo, cardboard and string.
The unique creations were all part of a two-day school holiday art workshop at the Scone Youth Centre called ‘Make it Big’ supported by Upper Hunter Shire Council.
Prominent Hunter artist Ken O’Regan was on hand as the students constructed horse sculptures from a variety of recycled and donated materials.
Mr O’Regan has created many successful workshops for children that combine art education with a message about waste reduction and recycling.
The completed artworks will be exhibited during the Scone Horse Festival and paraded down the main street.
The workshop proved to be a hit with the kids on Thursday.
“My horse went in the Melbourne Cup with a wooden leg and won!” one student exclaimed.
“I never thought I could build a horse from bamboo,” another added.
The Scone Horse Festival runs from May 4 to 13 and the full program is now available to download at https://sconehorsefestival.com.au/2018-program/.
