Held this year on Tuesday, May 8 at White Park, the day honours a legend of the local community and features a range of events like the utilty sheep dog trial, Australian stock horse demonstrations, sheep shearing, dog high jump, farrier demonstrations and other attractions.
The day attracts many visitors and has a focus on displaying aspects of rural life, particularly to the younger generation who may not have experienced such things. The sheep dog trial brings dogs and their owners from a wide area and the dog high jump is a feature of the day.
“Cost of the day is free, and although it’s open to everyone, it’s a really fantastic day for the kids,” event spokesperson Beryl Bates said.
“The kids usually come from around the area by bus and they’ll go from one display to the next and they really enjoy it.”
Action kicks off at 8am with the yard dog trials.
Displays and demonstration begin at approximately 9.30am.
“Godolphin have a display, the Rural Fire Service will give a chat, as will the police,” Beryl said.
“There will be a heavy horses demonstration, a shearer, a farrier and the dog high jump is always very popular, as are the stock horse demonstrations.
“Tac Towns will be on hand with his damper and billy tea, Westpac Rescue Helicopter will run a sausage sizzle and Caffe Mobilita will provide great coffee.”
Jack Johnston was involved in Scone Horse Week from its inception in 1980 until Jack Johnston Testimonial year in 1994.
