As usual, the local community supported them – on Fridays, April 27 and May 4 – via donations, purchase of merchandise and raffle tickets.
And, all-in-all, it was hailed a great success.
Cord blood is umbilical cord blood that can be collected after birth; it contains vital stem cells.
This was once considered waste material but it is now collected and used in curing illnesses and saving lives through cord blood research.
Inner Wheel Australia (IWA) has raised in excess of $2.5 million for cord blood research since its foundation.
They have given more than 38 research grants all over Australia to doctors and researchers currently involved in researching blood disorders such as leukaemia, stroke and heart disease, Group 1 diabetes and other auto immune diseases, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy and prostate cancer.
Recipients of IWA grants include Professor Graeme Jenkin, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Monash Institute of Medical Research; and Dr Alla Dolnikov, principal hospital scientist, Cord and Marrow Transplant Facility, Sydney Children’s Hospital.
The ladies from the Inner Wheel Club of Scone would like to thank the community for its continuing support.
Without your help, the organisation could not maintain its backing of this vital research.
