The clubs left Scone Park with two wins apiece, after the Thoroughbreds prevailed in first grade and women’s league tag, and the Greyhounds grabbed the points in reserves and under-18s.
In the main fixture, Scone recovered from its loss last week with a convincing 46-0 triumph.
The half-time score was 34-0.
Tries went to Tim Smith (3), Josh Watson (2), Brady Curry, Timothy Bridge and Josh Adams, with Jake Watts booted seven conversions.
Coach Aaron Watts was pleased with the improvement, particularly with a number of regular players not available on the day.
“Special mention goes to Brady Curry, who received Players’ Player, and showed there will be plenty of competition for spots in the first grade squad for future games.”
Also, congratulations to under-18 Matthew Morgan, who made his senior debut.
Scone’s reserves continued their losing way of late, going down 22-20.
The Greyhounds led 16-12 at the break.
Scott Lyne, Jake Collison, Thomas Vincent and Drew Brown touched down, with Kyle Wilcher adding two goals.
Coach Jade Smith was not, surprisingly, unhappy about the result.
“We had our chances to get the points but lost it in the last few minutes,” he explained.
“We have to turn this form around quickly to remain a threat in this competition.”
The under-18s had their first defeat of the season, suffering a 20-6 loss.
The Greyhounds enjoyed a 10-0 advantage at the interval.
Scone’s points came from a try to Edward Roser and conversion by Ben Fechner.
Coach Chris Brennan was disappointed with the performance but remains optimistic.
“The effort was not good enough today,” he said.
“Hopefully, the lads will realise they have to turn up ready to play every week – it will be a good lesson.”
The women’s league tag saw the undefeated Thoroughbreds continue their run with a solid 24-4 victory, after leading 18-0 early.
Sofie Casson (2), Nicky Schliffke, Sarah Smith and Flynn Haggarty posted four-pointers, while Georgia Watts and Loren Heath each kicked a goal.
Coach Josh Adams was pleased with the win and welcomed a couple of new players to the team.
“We are playing quite well and will need, too – to stay at the top of the table.”
This weekend, the Thoroughbreds face the Greta Branxton Colts at Greta on Sunday.
Matches begin from 10.25am, with the women’s league tag fixture.
First grade kicks off at 2pm.
