PUBLIC schools in the Upper Hunter Shire are taking advantage of a free program to teach students about waste and recycling, through visits from Keep Australia Beautiful NSW EnviroMentors in early June.

And, Upper Hunter Shire mayor Wayne Bedggood is encouraging all local schools to take part – with six already signing up.
“Council believes this is an important program for Upper Hunter schools to be involved in and it’s a great opportunity for children to learn good habits at a young age,” he said.
“More than ever before, our children need to understand the role they play in reducing the amount of waste they produce and ensuring waste is reused or recycled.”
The Keep Australia Beautiful NSW EnviroMentors offer children a fun and creative learning environment with games and props to keep children engrossed and actively engaged.
One of the lessons on offer is ‘Lunches Unwrapped’ where students explore the environmental implications of using different materials to package foods, and the best alternatives to single use packaging.
Schools may participate by completing and returning the invitations sent to them by Keep NSW Beautiful.
