Onlookers and vendors alike will be keen to see what prices do, particularly since a record-smashing result was achieved at Casterton’s Australian Kelpie Muster on the long weekend.
The western Victorian sale was topped by two-year-old Glencairn Seven who sold for $22,200, crushing the previous record of $14,000 paid for a working dog in Jerilderie earlier this year.
Of 60 Kelpies offered at Casteron, 50 sold for an average $5289 – the highest average achieved at the sale.
The National Working Stock Dog Futurity and Sale begins at 7am Friday, June 22, with an open trial, then Saturday the futurity starts at 8am, for dogs aged four years and under, purchased at previous sales, followed by the demonstration of sale dogs and finally the sale at 2.30pm.
The catalogue includes 52 working dogs and 12 pups less than six months of age.
Co-selling agents are Dean Taylor, Davidson Cameron Clydsdale Taylor, Scone, and Zac Ede, Bailey, Singleton.
“We have about 70 dogs in the open trial and 18 in the futurity,” Mr Taylor said.
“The futurity is worth $5000 to win, there’s $2000 for second place and $1000 for third.”
The NWSDFS, which has run since 2009, achieved a top price of $12,000 in 2017 for a Kelpie bitch, followed by $11,500 for a Border Collie bitch.
