Thompson had settled the Poet’s Voice filly toward the rear of the field, saving ground on the rails in the straight, before pulling away for a length debut win.
Trainer Rod Northam was full of praise for the ride.
“It was a super ride by Robert. He really makes a difference,” he said.
“She has been looking for more ground but I was a little worried stepping up from 1400m to 1750m might have been a little bit to much.
“But, she ran it out really nicely and was strong to the line.
“We will keep stepping her up in distance now and she might make a nice stayer.”
Athena’s Voice, who started $4.80 second favourite, was having her fourth career start.
She beat Daiquiri Lass ($14) trained by John Ramsey, with Tony Newing’s Rock Sonic ($4fav), a close third.
