THE Scone Thoroughbreds had two wins, a draw and a loss at Scone Park against Aberdeen last weekend, however it was the Tigers who won the Johnny Lawler Shield in First Grade.

It was a disappointing result for the Scone First Grade going down to the Aberdeen Tigers who maintain their top of the top of the table position.
The result could have gone either way at half time with Aberdeen having a 10 nil advantage. The second half however was a different story with Aberdeen taking control and dominating proceedings.
The final score blew out to 40:18 with Scone managing to score some points in the latter part of the game. Try scorers for Scone were Josh Adams, Tim Smith and Jarrod Wicks with Jake Watts adding three goals.
At the end of the first grade game, Club Life Member Scott Pennell reminded those of the ground of the contribution of the late Johnny Lawler to not only the Scone Football Club but the local community.
Friends of Johnny, Luke Griffiths, Chris McCarthy, Hilton Carrigan and Phil Eveleigh were present for Aberdeen Captain Daniel Hoogerworth to accept the Shield – adding to their impressive achievements over the past 12 months including the 2017 Premiership and the 2018 Scanlon Shield.
The Scone Reserve Grade put in one of their best performances this year, holding the top to the table Tigers to a 12 all draw. Scone had the lead 6 nil at half time, thanks to a try to Codie McCarthy and conversion to Ryan Hawkshaw.
The Tigers took the lead however with a couple of converted tries in the second half. Young Ben Fechner managed a four pointer with seven minutes to go however the conversion was unsuccessful. A penalty with minutes to go was successfully taken by Nathan Clerke for the final score of 12 all.
The Thoroughbred Under 18’s had a dominate win, taking out the match 40:6. The young Tigers put on a brave performance with the score 18:6 at half time, however the Scone team ran out convincing winners. Try scorers were Ronin Hadden (2), Zach Haworth (2), Nathan Clerke, Jake Newman and Cal Collison. Clerke added 6 conversions.
The Ladies League Tag commenced the day with Scone putting in a a solid performance, winning 28:6. Scone had a comfortable score of 22:0 at half time, however the Tigers stuck to their guns and only allowed one further try, while crossing themselves.
Scone try scorers were Rebecca Ann Hill (2), Lilly Golledge, Hannah Rando and Samantha Elphick scored tries. Elphick also had 4 conversions.
