Scone and District Netball Association’s under-14s make top 10 finish at NSW State Age Championships

SCONE and District Netball Association’s under-14 representative side ended its 2018 Netball NSW State Age Championships campaign in the top 10.

The division two squad – Emerson Brown, Tyla Brown, Chelsey Ellis, Meg Haylen, Prunella Hayes, Lara Hedley, Leah Ollerton, Olivia Taylor, Georgia Warren and Emily Watts – placed sixth overall at the three-day event after registering nine wins, six losses and two draws from its 17 matches.

They accounted for Manning Valley (19-15), Charlestown (21-9), Blue Mountains (17-10), Hastings Valley (20-14), Randwick (12-11), Hawkesbury City (19-7), Parramatta Auburn (16-5), Lismore (23-8) and Dubbo (24-10); and shared the honours with Maitland (16-all) and Nambucca Valley (19-all).

It was, however, a tougher time for the association’s other two age groups, who gained plenty of experience at the tournament.

Playing in the very competitive division two, the under-12s - Elinor Brooks, Eliza Duggan, Sarah Gatwood, T’Leah Gilbert, Alesha Harrington, Eva Holden, Ruby Hyland, Legacy Lewis, Sarah Shankley and Camilla Teague – finished in 17th spot.

Scone and District managed two victories in elite company, defeating Shoalhaven (9-3) and Coffs Harbour (11-9).

But, the experience gained at Camden will hold them in good stead in 2019.

The under-13s, consisting of Jasmine Backhouse, Ava Buffier, Abbey Cheshire, Caitlin Coady, Brenna Crompton, Molly Duffy, Jordan Evans, Amelia Fraser, Laura Keegan and Taylah Warren, snared 20th position.

Again, the youngsters never gave up, beating Orange (16-14), drawing with Maitland (16-all), and losing a couple of extremely close fixtures.

“The girls were proud ambassadors for Scone and the sport they love,” president Natalie Smith said.
