The gentlemen at the neighbouring Upper Hunter Men’s kindly cooked a sausage sizzle for the kids, who returned the favour with a thank you card and a batch of freshly cooked scones.

Scone and District Pre-School teacher Donna Du-Briard said the visit was a great way to build connections between the preschool and local community.

“Over the past month we have been admiring the beautiful smell of sausages being cooked in the barbeque over the fence at the Men’s Shed,” she said.

“We decided to approach them and ask if they wouldn’t mind cooking some sausages for us at the Preschool.

“The children loved having a chat to the men as they passed the sausages over and we invited them into Preschool to give them the gift and take a photo.”

Ms Du-Briard also said it was a way to ensure the children have the skills to participate in meaningful ways in group discussions, projects and shared decision making. 

“The children think we should bake some jam drops for the men next time… stay tuned!” she added.
