A free training session will take place at Scone Polo Fields in Gundy next Monday, August 13, for the kids, while Rural Resilience Program and Rural Financial Counselling officials will be on hand to give advice about the new government relief package.

The collaboration is designed to give people a chance to talk about the issue and find out more personalised information than what’s offered online.

HLLS Officer Sarah Giblin said the event was “all about getting one-on-one and having a yarn with each other”.

And, she’s thrilled with the amount of people looking to come along.

She praised the club’s response, saying “Local Land Services approached the Brumbies to be involved in a community event to support rural communities in the Upper Hunter and they jumped on board straight away”.

“The numbers are still rising but at this stage it’s looking like 200-plus.

“There’s such a big following of rugby in the Upper Hunter and the Hunter in general.”

The event may have some more star power on the way too, with Ms Giblin revealing that a couple of Wallabies players may be joining the cause.

But, while the kids and some parents, too, will be excited by the prospect of meeting their heroes, the focus will be on the drought relief package, and how it can be used best to assist those that are struggling.

She says it’s important for people to know “that they’re not the only ones involved and there are others trying to help”.

“I think it’ll be a good support for the community,” Ms Giblin said.

“The landholders can get together and talk about their problems and how to work around them.”

The community event will take place from 3.30pm to 6.30pm and include a dinner, as well as the opportunity for the children to pose for photos and get signatures with their favourite players after training.
