The Merriwa Springtime Show committee have introduced a new event, The Wideland Challenge, where teams of three compete in a variety of activities against the clock and each other.
Organiser, Merriwa group fitness trainer Emma Evans, said the challenge is essentially a sporting event with an added twist.
“We’ve tried to be a little sensitive this year with the drought. Things have been pretty rough for a lot of people so we just want them to have a bit of fun, enjoy themselves and not worry about anything,” Mrs Evans said.
The challenge will have four groups – under 12s, under-16s, open women and open men – and there is one entry allowed per organisation, per age group.
“We’re going to have all these little activities for them to do starting from about 3.30pm on Saturday the 15th,” Mrs Evans said.
“There will be a variety of different activities and sporting activities – a little bit of fun really at the end of the day.
“I can’t say too much about what the events are except for that on the pamphlet we’ve sent out there’s a three person ski. We will also have an event in there that will be something to do with agriculture.”
Wideland Group have sponsored the challenge with $2000 in prize-money.
“The prize will go to whoever finishes with the fastest time out of each group, and they will get $500,” Mrs Evans said.
“Of that $500, $400 will go towards the organisation they represent and then $100 will go towards the participants to spend at the show or however they want to spend it.”
Email entries to fionamorgan6@bigpond.com with your team’s name, what age group you’re competing in plus the organisation you are representing by 5pm Thursday September 13 or contact Emma on 0411386177.
The Merriwa Springtime Show is on Saturday, September 15, at the Merriwa Showground.
