A-Plus Contracting Hunter Valley Mining Charity Rugby League Knockout Competition in full swing at Singleton

IT’S no place for the faint-hearted at Singleton’s Pirtek Park on Saturday, with the A-Plus Contracting Hunter Valley Mining Charity Rugby League Knockout Competition in full swing.

More than 300 local miners – representing the Bengalla Badgers, Rebel Roos, Glendell Gladiators, Rix’s Creek Rattlesnakes, Werris Creek Wildcats, Yancoal Yowies, Mt Arthur Meerkats, MTW Razorbacks, Mt Owen Mustangs, Ravensworth Rhinos, Saxonvale Raiders, Wambo Wolves, Integra Tigers, Maules Creek Maulers, Hunter Valley United Cobras and MTW Barbarians – are competing for bragging rights, while the ever-popular Women in Mining series – featuring the Hunter Hawkettes and Valley Vixens – returns in 2018.

Now in its fifth year, the tournament also raises much-needed funds for the vital Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service (WRHS).

Today, the WRHS is approaching 2000 missions throughout northern NSW, operating from Newcastle, Tamworth and Lismore.

“It’s events like this, and the corresponding support, which ensure the WRHS can continue to fly 24-7 as a free service,” community liaison officer Danny Eather said.
