Visitors to the two-day Antiques and Collectables Weekend hosted by the school’s P&C will have the opportunity to step back in history as they view or purchase items ranging from fine china and glassware, to restored furniture and vintage collectables.
P&C president Kath Meier said vendors will come from as far as South East Queensland, Tenterfield, Port Macquarie, Sydney and Newcastle.
“They will bring a broad range of antiques and collectables including top-end and retro furniture, antique jewellery, fine china and glassware and French and English bric-a-brac,” she said.
Among the 11 vendors will be Brenton and Sharon Kinnear of Kinnear’s Fine Australian Antiques from Toowoomba who have been involved with antiques since 1984.
The pair specialise in a wide range of 19th century colonial furniture in cedar, blackwood, huon pine with a strong emphasis on original finishes.
The event, which is set to be held from Friday October 26 through to Sunday October 28, will raise funds for a much-needed upgrade to the school canteen.
“Last year the money we raised contributed to the air conditioning replacement in the library,” Ms Meier said.
“This year we are aiming to upgrade the canteen as a space for students to enjoy their free time.”
A new highlight will be a vintage car display, with the opportunity to have your car washed for $20 by local students, which will grant you free entry into the Antiques and Collectables.
The display and car wash will run from 10am to 2pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
“The students are a lot more involved than in previous years, assisting with everything from the car wash to catering,” Ms Meier said.
“Homemade morning tea and lunch will be provided by parents and staff, in a lovely atmosphere with tables set up inside and on the lawn over the weekend.”
Proceedings will officially begin with an opening night on Friday October 26 starting from 6pm with canapes and drinks and all vendors open on the night.
“Our students will be assisting with the catering and servicing on Friday night which forms part of their assessment for their courses,” Ms Meier added.
There will be some lovely local cheese and wine available on the night.
“Hunter Belle Dairy Co, Two Rivers Wines and Pat Gleeson Real Estate are our sponsors, so there will be some lovely local cheese and wine available on the night.”
Tickets for the night are available from Hunt a Book Scone or at Scone High School.
The Antiques and Collectables will be open at Scone High School, Gundy Road on Saturday October 27 from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday October 28 from 10am to 4pm.
Entry is $7 or $10 for a two-day pass.
